Copy AI ID Privacy Policy
Effective date: June 26, 2026
Copy AI ID is a developer and QA browser extension for inspecting rendered page targets, with a workflow that prefers stable data-ai-id attributes. This policy explains what the extension reads, stores locally, copies, and does not transmit.
Summary
Copy AI ID is designed for local developer and QA workflows. It does not sell user data, use advertising IDs, run analytics, include a native host, or send page content, notes, browsing history, prompts, files, target metadata, or visual-edit records to a remote Copy AI ID server.
The extension reads the current page DOM only while the user enables the editor. It uses that information locally to build the layout tree, show the responsive preview, highlight selected DOM nodes, identify stable data-ai-id targets, generate fallback target details for elements without IDs, apply preview-only visual edits, and copy user-written notes or visual-edit instructions only after an explicit user action.
Information processed locally
- Rendered page layout information: tag names, class tokens, direct text previews, visibility,
data-ai-idvalues, and generated fallback metadata such as selectors, selector type or reliability, DOM paths, concise nearby text, and accessibility context. - Selected target references: a selected
data-ai-idplus duplicate instance index, or generated fallback metadata for no-ID elements. - Notebook draft text: user-entered note text, selected target chips, and selected fallback target details.
- Preview-only visual edits: selected target snapshots, computed or inline style values, safe attributes, text, rich HTML, form values, structure snapshots, before-and-after payloads, breakpoint labels, mutation status, and warnings.
- Popup and current-tab state: the active tab context needed to enable or disable the editor on the page the user chose.
- Iframe preview URL: the current page URL with the local
copy-ai-id-preview=1marker used to load the page in the local browser preview.
Local storage
Most editor state is runtime-only and is cleared when the editor session ends or after a successful copy. Copy AI ID may use browser-local storage only for local preferences such as note font size, panel widths, layout-tree collapsed state, floating note panel mode, preview dimensions, preview viewport mode, and default target-notice text.
Notebook draft recovery can use the browser session storage for the current site or file scope so that an in-progress note can survive the current tab session. This draft storage is best-effort, local to the browser, and is not uploaded by Copy AI ID.
Clipboard behavior
Copy AI ID writes to the clipboard only when the user explicitly clicks Copy or presses the supported copy shortcut. The copied text can include the user-created notebook text, selected data-ai-id references, generated fallback target metadata, suffix settings, and preview-only visual edit summaries or JSON diffs when present.
Network transfer
Copy AI ID does not upload page content, notebook notes, target metadata, visual edit records, analytics events, prompts, or files to a remote Copy AI ID service. The extension source is designed without analytics beacons, advertising identifiers, native messaging, or remote AI processing.
The editor preview loads the current page URL inside the user’s local browser. The page itself may make its normal site requests, but Copy AI ID does not treat the preview as a transfer to a Copy AI ID service and does not add a remote upload step.
Permissions and purpose
Copy AI ID needs access to pages where the user chooses to use it so it can inspect rendered data-ai-id attributes, build the local layout tree, generate fallback selectors and context for selected no-ID elements, draw preview selection overlays, apply user-directed preview-only DOM or style edits in the local preview, and open the note panel.
The storage permission is used for local editor preferences and related local-only state. Copy AI ID does not use storage for account tracking, advertising, analytics, cloud synchronization, or behavioral profiling.
What Copy AI ID does not do
- It does not sell user data.
- It does not use data for advertising, creditworthiness, lending, or unrelated profiling.
- It does not run analytics or behavioral tracking.
- It does not include native messaging or a native host.
- It does not provide remote AI processing, cloud note synchronization, or automatic prompt sending.
- It does not automatically scrape, crawl, monitor, or automate third-party websites.
- It does not upload page content, notes, visual edits, browsing history, prompts, files, or selected target details to a Copy AI ID server.
Children’s privacy
Copy AI ID is a developer and QA tool. It is not directed to children and is not intended to knowingly collect personal information from children.
Changes to this policy
If Copy AI ID adds future settings persistence, browser history features, screen capture, voice features, AI chat, native host support, prompt-sending workflows, analytics, or remote synchronization, this privacy policy should be updated before those features are released.
